A little wire to redirect branches this morning. They are fleshing out nicely!
Crabapple, Silver Birch and Taiwan Maple.
And a bonus shot of three of my littluns catching some morning sunshine![Thymetraveller] Betula Pendula

Re: [Thymetraveller] Betula Pendula
Update on this silver birch:
In order for my ideas to work, I need to direct some more energy into the taller, slender trunk to encourage the topmost branches.
I decided to remove the higher branch from the fat trunk. I will be looking to develop secondary branching on the remaining limb, but I want to open up some space in the centre of the tree. I also removed some wire, which had set the branch quicker than I had expected.
I am happy to see that theres a shoot on the taller trunk which should give me a decent back branch too.
Sydney's swampy humidity has been suiting this tree down to the ground, with good growth all over. In order for my ideas to work, I need to direct some more energy into the taller, slender trunk to encourage the topmost branches.

It was your post that made me go look at my entries, so thanks for that!

Cheers Mel!
It was a lucky find...That cool base gives it a real head start...I just hope I can take it to where it needs to go!

Re: [Thymetraveller] Betula Pendula
February to December update.
Bird's eye view
The fatter trunk is growing well. One branch is coming straight forward, so off it comes
Some nice branches on the taller, slender trunk, but they have remained static for months. There are pert little buds on the ends, but they just don't seem to want to pop! I have buried a little Osmocote in that side of the pot, in the hope that it will prod them into action.

Moderators, please withdraw.
I can only assume that the extreme heat and then the big wet was too much for its Northern European sensibilities.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...and it does free up a verrrry nice little Tokoname pot, I suppose...sniff...
