Fig replant in colander

So I finally repotted the fig in a colander. As usual, I am a bit concerned I didn't do anything wrong but will find out soon.

Originally was in this pot. Was too small and I was advised on the forum to repot it. It was hard to get it out and I might have damaged some roots in the process but i think not too much.

Finally went in this colander. It did seem happy or may be I would like to think that way lol

The trunk has a nice shape.

Plenty of water now. The colander will dry out quickly because the moisture evaporates from all directions now instead of just out the top.
Figs love to be fed so remember to fed it every few weeks (leave it 2-3 weeks to recover from repot before feeding). They don't care what sort of fert, just plenty of it.

I actually mixed a little fertilizer after I moved it. Is that bad?

I always use osmocote in the mix when transplanting and occasionally add blood and bone to a potting mix so I'm not sure why the traditional fear of fert after repotting. I'm more comfortable with adding a little fert to the mix than leaving a tree to starve. your tree will be fine.

Much better than the previous small pot. For even better growth place in the garden and half bury to let the roots escape. This will thicken the base much quicker..... That is if you want it to thicken more..

That advice may be appropriate for Sydney, Matlea but Bonsaeen is from Melbourne where it can get a bit cooler. Figs might grow in some protected gardens in warmer areas closer to the bay but much of Victoria is too cold for figs outside in winter. I would not even consider planting figs in the ground where I live with winter temps well below 0C in winter.
