Hey guys,
At our place we have a jasmine hedge, a few beautiful old Jasmines make it up. The gardener frequently comes and trims it back (body corporate dude) and leaves the of cuts everywhere. It seems that a couple have actually rooted and seem to be growing healthy, with no help from me. I was wanting to dig one up. Are there any precautions I should take? It's only small, so I don't imagine it would have many roots as yet!
WIll get a pic up later.

Re: Digging up a jasmine cutting
hey pal.
as long as you can get the entire rootball up without disturbing it to much, put it in to some good quality free draining mix (whether its a propagation mix or not) and keep it in good conditions you shouldnt have a problem
how old is the hedge? if you go about it the right way you might be able to talk to the maintenance guy and get one of the older ones off the end? hedge plants can make awesome bonsai
good luck mate.
regards jamie

Yeh, just dig and keep as much roots as posible and if you "accidentally" dig up a good old plant from the hedge, just replace it with the young cutting and it will fill up the gap in no time

Always we hope someone else has the answer.

Re: Digging up a jasmine cutting
Thanks guys, that's pretty much what i was planning =)Just realised I'm very nearly out of potting mix. Will have to get some tomorrow! So I'll do the "big dig" (haha it's not big at all) tomorrow. There's two "cuttings" that are growing, I'll get them both I think. The second one has potential to be more "interesting" in the future.
Win.
PS. Yeah, hedge plants can be awesome! These are a bit too awesome haha =P The trunks are huge. I don't have any plastic pots big enough for them, let alone Bonsai pots! Not sure on the exact age, but they are certainly formidable!

if the trunk is too big i would go and buy one of those cheap storage containers you get from the warehouse and use that as an initial starting pot for it. then you could go to tess's to get on of her big pots. last i seen they were around 800 buchs but were awesome too.
let us know how ya go mate
