Trident Maple

Hi. Everyone, just wondering if anyone can give me advice for this trident maple. What would be the nice position? It's my first time that I will do root over the rock.

Have you thought about standing the rock up and having the roots grow down the Crevices in the rock?

When you pot it up don't force just 1 tree to 1 rock. Get some more rocks in case the trees roots won't work with this one. Likewise you could get more trees and see which fits this rock best.

If you google the following and go into images you will see many examples to choose from. I am sure you will find the one you want. Google root over rock trident maple Images
It really doesn't matter where you attach it to the rock. Its your personal choice of what you like.

Kirky has made a very good point. It doesn't matter too much which way you attach the roots.
Pick whatever looks good to you, maybe avoid plonking it on top that never works well.
Its your first one so you will learn from it and on the next one improve as we all do.
Have a go and enjoy doing your first ROR

The others have a good point about personal preferences. There is no 'right' answer to where to put your tree and it could look good in many positions however I prefer the place you have indicated on the stone at an angle
Pearcy has a good point that the roots one one particular tree may not fit on one particular rock. I usually start with around 10 rocks and 15 seedlings so that I can get better root fit on the rocks I want to use. that your tree will have roots in the right places so it will fit on your rock.
In my experience not every attempt at root over rock turns out to be brilliant, even with lots of experience I still have those that don't work out - sometimes a couple of roots don't grow well, other times one root will become dominant and the others just don't grow well, other times the trunk shape just does not work with the shape of the rock. Just letting you know that failure is possible but that you have beginners luck with this one.

Cling wrap will work if the rock is convex all round but it does not press the roots into hollows of the rock and you may end up with roots that don't follow the rock surface closely. That's why I developed the foil technique. Foil wrap can conform closely to any shape of rock and hold the roots close to all surfaces while they grow.
