[ID] New House, New Tree

Hi all,

I've just moved house in the last couple weeks. There is a tree planted in my front yard that is starting to flower. Internode length is nice but I am yet to see it in leaf.

Any thoughts?

If it's a good species for Bonsai I'm wondering if it's suitable for layers/cuttings? And lastly if it is then when is best?

Pretty!! Looks like a fruit tree of some sort, and I'd say there's a very good chance of it being suitable for bonsai!

I agree with Kevin here - my vote is for Ornamental Pear.
Hope you get plenty of sunshine at your new place.

That looks like a plum to me especially the new shoot. Don't pears tend to have flowers in clusters?

Either way you have a number of air layers there for some broom styles or forest plantings I dare say

It is a plum(Prunus sp.) not ornamental pear (Pyrus sp.)

Have a dig around the base for suckers. Rip and pot.

Its definitely a Plum. Great for bonsai, easy to air layer too

I have never needed to layer a frowering species before, should I be removing the flower buds/flowers above the layer in order to conserve energy when I layer??

Ryceman the Mel's line all the streets around these parts, there's one that size every 5-10 metres

Not so lucky where I am, plane trees aren't nearly as fun...!
