A stick in a pot is better than no stick at all. Remember even the best bonsai started as a stick.

Bit of an update while i remember. Growing along quite healthily. In a bigger pot for now to promote growth. 8 months to go. Gees i hope it gets a bit better soon. Just a stick with foliage atm.

Sammy, where is your confidence? I think its progressing quit nicely. A few flowers for the end of comp and that will attract a few extra votes!!!!

They grow and develop quite quickly so are a good candidate for comp like this

Looks great.
Obviously not the most character in the trunk but definitely looks like Bonsai to me!

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: Sammy (Firethorne)
Final images.
First I would like to say this comp has been a real hoot and also been a great challenge.
It sure does test an individual's ability when one is given a tight schedule to develop a tree that may loosely be called a bonsai.
For this tree I have been very happy with the constant growth it has put on. It never slowed down and never looked back. Even gave me some flowers to finish up the comp
Considering where this tree started to now I am very happy. My plan for the future will be to improve branch structure and negative space and also expose root flare a little as the roots are not too bad. I may also allow a low sacrificial branch to grow to improve trunk taper.
To think this is how the tree started
And for the final pic. Drum roll please lol.
For 17 months of growth I am pleased. I wish everyone good luck and I am sure i will see some nice progressions. Sure has been fun. All the best to fellow bonsai nuts
