Juniper for thoughts

I have been working on this juniper for a few years now. It has had more direction changes then you could imagine. I had discussed it with others at the school of bonsai and a few options where put forward. I happened to reluctantly like one option in particular. I say reluctantly as every time I think I'm decided on a direction with the tree someone challenges my design and I am left with the dilemma of indecision.

Let me know what you see please.

I would like to see a few different views of this one.

I find the current view a little cluttered.

as your asking I'll throw my in I'd want to show that lovely jin off...apex down to cascade, right branch new apex behind and beside verticle jin but not higher than horizontal top,lower right branch lifted higher and angled to mirror trunk....whatever you do...you have a fantastic looking tree....

That long straight jin doesn't fit in with the dynamics of the rest of the tree, so I would shorten/remove it.

The bottom section of trunk doesn't really flow with the rest of the tree either, so getting some more movement down low or strategic shari to give the impression of movement.

More photos would give us a better idea of what's going on around the tree.

I quite like the tree, it needs a bit of refining but I like it.
I think the Jin would look good if it was carved and made a bit thinner.

Hi Squizzy,

I agree with Jarad, that straight jin doesn't work with the rest of the tree. My thoughts regarding the current design - this is an energetic tree but the first thing I notice is that the 2 main primary branches (first left and first right) are equal lengths, tending to give a balanced, restful feel which I think is counter to the tree as a whole. I'd prefer to see one of them reduced to give a more asymmetrical shape. You could make either work depending on your preference:

Longer branch on the left shows a tree leaning into the light (in which case you should move the apex in the same direction), Longer branch on the right shows a tree that has been pushed over and is now growing back into itself.

I know the feeling of constantly finding new options with a tree like this with so many opinions. Once you've found something you like be prepared to constantly hear new suggestions but be satisfied with your own choices! Good luck, it's a nice tree.

It's always interesting what others see in a tree. I think all ideas have merit. I want to sketch a few of the thoughts to discuss more which I hope to do as soon as I can. I can see the issue with the current Jin. Others have suggested more deadwood which I am beginning to like the sound of.

This one has changed a bit and I had a chance to work on it tonight so thought I would update.

The first photo shows it filled out somewhat and the second shows a drastic change of style and front of the tree. I have looked at the tree quite a bit over the past few months and I think I have made the right decision????????

Hi Squizzy,
I think your new front creates a much more unique and interesting bonsai than the original. Maybe the jins need a little work, but that is just looking from one photo. I much prefer the new angle. Good move!
