"My Funny Valentine" THE UGLIEST BONSAI Competition
So after much enjoyment & success of Squizzy’s Aus Day competition, I feel It’s time for another...as the title suggests, who currently owns THE UGLIEST BONSAI?
Seeing as a few members felt they had no trees ready, or available to show for the previous "Aus Day" comp – this one should be suited for EVERYONE (who has a sense of humour) and for ALL LEVELS (including the "experts".)
So I’m pretty sure you all know the trees I’m talking about here....a few examples below:
a. The ambitious experiments, [now Frankenstein's?] that you once had high hopes for, but are now slightly embarrassed to have still displayed on your bonsai bench.
b. The sickly ones stuck in limbo, that you can’t possibly chuck in the bin yet, just in case of a miracle - or other supreme act of God!
c. The poor quality store bought “gifts” from friends or family which you simply hold on to for sentimental value, & for when they next visit.
d. The trees which you thought would like all day full sun through Summer, or placed indoors on the top of the fridge .
e. The now struggling yamidori that you couldn't resist to squeeze into a waaaaayy too small bonsai pot - straight away!
Would like this Comp to run for one week (finishing on Sunday 18th Feb) where, if there is enough interest?, a poll will be created for all members to vote on who is currently the proud owner of "The Ugliest Bonsai" around .
A few easy rules-
1. Tree must be alive & photo/s posted must be fairly recent.
2. Tree must have at least one branch? - Leaves being optional. (sorry....No bare Stumps)
3. Tree must be presented in a pot of some sort – not growing in the ground.
No written descriptions, or explanations are really necessary - a uploaded pic can tell a thousand words.
The “bonsai” will no doubt be laughable! – so viewers should resist posting any negative or serious critiques – unless, they too are deemed laughable!
Please ALL contribute, by making the time to photograph "your un-photographable...."
Let's celebrate the freaks!...and the may the "Ugliest Bonsai" win.

An olive - a failing attempt at the traditional "turtle back" style.

Had to withdraw this beauty from entering the recent Kokufu at the last minute - FYI, apparently "azalea's" need watering too.
Unfortunately, It's still alive - good news?

Re: "My Funny Valentine" THE UGLIEST BONSAI Competition
Ok. At the start of summer I had plenty to put in this comp but what I have been doing with most of my crap is air layering the desired parts.
So with that said here is my entry of the remains of a tree I have layered. I will post the good part in a seperate post.
