Kunzea ambigua ‘groovster’
Been working a lot of Kunzea ambigua lately, this time of year is prime for maximum flexibility, patching damage and setting up strong vascular solidarity, so great time for heavy styling, pruning, and repotting, though not at the same time.
This tree is the largest and possibly the best kunzea I’ve collected. It was collected in the winter of 2015 and recovered for 2 years before potting into a small container in the spring of 2017. It was how ready for styling I Wich involved a heavy bend to a 2 inch thick structural piece in the upper part of the tree, the branch supports all the foliage on the tree and had to be controllably broken to move it in place. The work was performed about a month ago and the tree has successfully flushed out in new growth.
With the quick positive recovery I may repot to the new angle in the late winter of this year if not though I will wait until this time next year!

Nice result Hugh ,going to be one special tree. What a great species
Have to agree with you , now has to be the optimum time to work on them. Have spent the last couple of nights wiring up a very curly one into a Penjing style. Trying for something different. Keen to know about the process of braking the branch as they can be pretty tough once they get a bit of size.
Cheers John.

Re: Kunzea ambigua ‘groovster’
Yeah when I repot this time coming it will easily go straight in at the new angle. I’ll document the process when I do. Already have an interesting pot picked out !tgward wrote:excellence----- in similar pot,can you achieve in one repot -(with aus natives), that planting angle ? or over multiple repots
