hey
there was another maple at this nursery that was for sale except it had NEVER been repotted. it roots went around the pot atleast 5 times! :o :lol:

looking good mate :D

to me it seems a little tall, what are your plans? are you going to try get back budding or are you gonna airlayer it to bring the height down? you would get 2 trees then :D it looks like it would make a great broom style if you could layer it down to where the line shows on the pic of it i have posted :D

i have left it a bit longer as to allow the foliage to fill out some more and come down.

I would layer it now if you are going to, as any later you will be looking at the hottest part of summer to take it off.

okay. will do it tomorrow. any other advice on maple layering. I am going to do it a little lower than your virt jamie incase i stuff up so i can do it higher. i will dust it with rotting hormone. is there anything else that maples need?

i dont think you will have to much trouble layering it mate. it should be relativly easy :D im pretty sure they take quite well.

ok. got a full bag. when should i take it off? should i wait until the bag is completely full of roots so its almost exploding or just when i can see the white tips?

i tried once but it was 4 years ago and it was near the end of summer! :o It was on a maple aswell and had a few tiny white sprouts when i took it off so it probably would have worked if i'd left it. It grew on because i just took it as a cutting. My books don't really say to much? Damn! I will search heaps tonight and find as much as I can. I know a few sites that explain it aswell i think?

yeah mate, leave it on till you see lots and lots of roots and even better if you can leave it till they are brown. then you know its strong :D

i reckon. probly 3 or so months and you should be good :D just a matter of checking it every now and again and makng sure it is in the right conditions
