Melbourne has had bugger all heat really . A 39 here and there then back to mid 20's the next day. You lucky bastards......Pearcy001 wrote:Currently in the Philippines, so praying the person I entrusted with looking after my trees in Melbourne is doing a good job (They're not a Bonsai person). I've had my fingers crossed for the last 3 weeks haha. I put everything in full shade before I left just to be safe.

Re: Hot Day
They've never had four days over 40degC in Canberra before - things are certainly changing. I had one tree with fried leaves - a thick small hand-made pot seems more likely to cook the roots in a nasty way... I think I got it in time - lost one last year the same way. Everything survived with watering once a day until we got to 40degC, then the littlies went into witness protection (shade).

Re: Hot Day
So another week here of near or over 40 degrees. Just about over it and thinking of taking up knitting instead. Hope everyone is keeping the watering up.

Re: Hot Day
I’ve already made reservations indoors for Thursday & Friday in the garage. Once it passes 37-38 I don’t even bother leaving my bonsai outside anymore. They might not like being inside, but they will hate the heat more I suspect

Knitted Bonsai is a thing - pattern by Joyce Brose No need for water - perhaps a wash every now and then!Matthew wrote:So another week here of near or over 40 degrees. Just about over it and thinking of taking up knitting instead. Hope everyone is keeping the watering up.

Re: Hot Day
Hottest day on record in Adelaide today at 46.6C. Trees that were quite happy after days of 42C were not happy today. Came home to crispy crab apple seedlings, fried trident maple apices and saggy tips on many more. Fortunately some relief for few days before we are back to the high 30s.

Re: Hot Day
Same here Terryb. Lost a heap of well watered seedlings that have had no problems with multiple 40+ days
