The big one is less than 1cm below the lignotuber.
I find them much easier to locate at night, just take a torch outside. This seems to be when they feed more openly, possibly due to less predictors out. sawfly larvae (spitfire caterpillar?) seem to quickly strip leaves down to the skeletal remains around my yard, usually in a pack on the underside of the leaf.
