Vines for kcpoole

There is a guy that used to Post on the IBC and he had lots of grape bonsai. He often enjoyed making mini trellis for them and also planting a rose bush with it as the rose was traditionaly planted at the end of each vine run because it is very susceptible to Powdery mildew and it would be an indicator that the grapes may be infested.
This would work great for that style But you may think that tacky
I will have to chase him down and see where he is posting these days. I think he also had a nice willow.

A very nice vine, Bretts, very similar to many of the vines in the vineyard I photographed.

Some of the vineyards in Mudgee have planted roses at the ends of the rows, they are starting to flower now and look very nice.

This vineyard is still in-production, I think a co-operative runs it, and they still make wine with the grapes. If it was deserted/abandoned I'd certainly be pursuing these trees.

A lot of vineyards along the tourist circuit have removed the fences from alongside the road, which makes Mudgee more the prettier. This vineyard is popular with tourists as it's the only one that I know of in Mudgee that is untrelised, no trellis's (sp?). Many tourists stop and take photo's, I often see wedding parties having photo's taken amongst the vines.

Vine material movement is strictly controlled due to a ground aphid called phylloxera. Mudgee is phylloxera free and so people cannot bring grapevine into the area without approval.

Hi Brett
I think the guy you are referring to from IBC is Don Ziemann whose family from memory was associated with Zinfandel grapes.

If you want I can try to dig out his contact details and web site when I get back to OZ in a couple of weeks

That would be Great Sreeve. I was thinking he should have good care notes but a google does seem to have various info on these as bonsai.
He was a nice chap (yes thats the guy) Don I would love to see what he is upto these days

Here it is today. Just concentrating on pulling the branch in closer to the trunk and building strength at the moment. It had some Gum seedlings growing in with it and when I repotted this spring I found they had colonized most of the growing space in the pot so I am letting it grow out this year again to encourage lots of rooting.
It is in a akadama and terracotta mix now. It can often handle watering twice a day so once summer hits it will need watering 2-3 times a day.
