Yesterday I attended Ryan's Masterclass with this odd Japanese black pine I purchased four months ago from Pat in Wagga.
After an entire day working and learning with Ryan we can out with this version of the tree. Just needs to recover and to be repotted at the new angle.
I'm glad I went with Ryan he's such a fantastic teacher. Just getting those few hours with him definitely has improved my knowledge and confidence.
Enjoy the pictures
The start...
Ryan working his magic..
The jins..
The end of the work shop...

Good result, congratulations.
Now the hard part, you have to find a new pot.

He is amazing. that's me in the background in the first pic. There is such a temptation to just follow him around the room - which I did at the beginning - but then he gets back to your tree and you've done nothing with it since his previous visit.
I had the juniper which he turned into a raft. I spent yesterday trying to make a box to move it into and then last night went to the demo. We're very lucky to have had this opportunity.

Excellent vision for the tree.
Maybe it was intentional, but I am not sure about the verticality of the trunk pointing straight up and the trunk coming straight down. Tilting it slightly more to the right or left to break the vertical line will add to the dynamic and flow.
Food for thought.

What he did with your tree was interesting. I would have never thought to do a raft. Would like to know how it progresses.gnichols wrote: ↑September 1st, 2019, 8:08 am He is amazing. that's me in the background in the first pic. It was great to catch up with you this weekend Pat. I love that Maple of yours in the collection... It's so good.
I'm so happy with how the tree turned out. Definitely heading in a good direction
