Where to buy a Japanese red pine in Victoria?

Post by damienw133 »

Hi all,
not sure if this is the right place to post this, but i'm hoping someone on here might be able to offer some suggestions on where i might be able to buy a Japanese red pine, either Umbraculifera or ideally, the original species

Cheers!

Are you looking for young material, rough stock or established trees?

I see densiflora occasionally as young stock as thick as your finger at Bonsai Art in Heatherton. Once or twice I have seen cultivars of densiflora at Bonsai Sensation in Narre Warren, though that was a very long time ago. Established and rough stock is quite uncommon.

Yamina Rare Plants lists densiflora on their retail list on their website, that would be another option.

Sorry, i should have clarified in my post, ideally i'm looking for young unworked material or (very) rough stock .

Whichever it is - umbraculifera or a standard densiflora its ultimately destined to be used for landscaping/niwaki rather than bonsai so established trees are pretty much a no go for me.

You might try Conifer Gardens in Ferny Creek - a general nursery that has a range of different pines in stock.

Hi Damien,

I was lucky enough to purchase a few young plants from Ryceman3 (Ryan) recently. I am not sure if he has any more on the burn but perhaps flick him a note; there may be some that you can reserve/grab next year if you are after young stock.

Cheers,

Mark

I'd like a JRP also, I'm in Brisbane.

I live reasonably close to Bonsai Art and have just been in to check ... Trevor’s got heaps of red pine and more out the back. If you visit and want to see more - he’ll show you... basically he’s got stock that starts from about $12 up and up ....

You might want to check with Tien at Bonsai Sensation too. I haven’t checked Tien’s stock levels... that’s a bit of a trek!

Good luck.
