Re: Juniper - Summer Root Work
I've never done it. In the old days we were told only spring and I've stuck with that for no other reason than I was told and it seems to work.
Now there are more and more growers doing autumn root pruning. Some Americans talk about root pruning 'after the summer solstice' and that seems to work OK over there and for an increasing number of Aussie growers.
Why the hurry? Is there some sort of driving need to do major root work now or have you just not learned patience yet? Good bonsai is long term. You need to start to think in terms of years instead of right now. When you can settle into that frame of mind a few months is no big problem.
Need to consider:
Is there really such a driving need?
How valuable is the tree?
Are you a gambler?
