I’m going with Mel’s thoughts, the two that jumped out immediately to me were Marie’s circular with the lined pattern and secondly Pat’s circular with the diamond edging. The blue is lovely but might dominate the tree

Lol I wasn't thinking of a pot for the actual tree. But i agree the blue would totally be too distracting. Pats diamond edging pot would be my choice for the tree :tu:

Another vote here for Pats diamond edge pot. Stunning

I'm also a fan of the shape and colour of Viveann Mennega's pot too
Life's too short for boring pots

Awesome to see some local talent on display.

Some of my favourites:

Luke Parsons - hard to go past his pots but I'm not 100% sold on the pot + tree combo.
Marie Hewartson - really captures the colours of the tree
Pat Kennedy - the second rather than the first with the diamond edging. Lovely texture.

But the one I keep coming back to the most is Alex A's white pot - for some reason the combination of that pot and the tree brings this weird sense of nostalgia. I can't quite put my finger on it but the combination really works for me.

For the Agonis I like pats second pot with the beautiful crackling (my personal favourite), or Graham's rock/slab the best for pairing with the tree.

Graham is that all artificial or a real rock?

Cheers,
Pearcy.

Pearcy , if that was a real rock you would never lift it . I can pick that pot up with one hand plus it has provision for lifting handles for two or four lifters .
I lived for a time one suburb from Peppermint Grove in WA , so was able to visualise the tree in its natural habitat.
Cheers

I thought it wasn't a real rock, but you've made hard to tell - well done! Great pot mate.

Not going out to Bonsai events does seem to have given me more time . So ....... quite a few of my lightweight “ rocks “ have come into being .

Hi Everyone

The Bonsai Pot Acquisition Prize was designed to encourage the appreciation of the art of bonsai pottery and to highlight the beauty and functionality of bonsai pots. The style of the pot adds to the aesthetics, the emotions evoked and to the way a bonsai is styled and maintained. Entrants were challenged to design a pot for an Australian native bonsai, Agonis flexuosa, Willow Myrtle.
We have been so impressed with the imagination, creativity and craftsmanship of the pots received for the Bonsai Pot Acquisition Prize.
Whilst the display of the pots at the Collection was cancelled due to COVID-19, we can share the pots with you online. Which pot do you like?
Stay tuned to find out who the winners are.

Congratulations to Luke Parsons who received third place in the Bonsai Pot Acquisition Prize at the National Bonsai & Penjing Collection of Australia. The judges were impressed by the earth tones of this beautiful pot which would complement many Australian native species. With the contrast and use of colours, the artist has created a versatile pot that would complement the featured bonsai bark and foliage.

The pot will become a permanent feature of the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia. Luke receives $400 in prize money thanks to the NBPCA Bonsai Trust Fund.

Congratulations Luke!

First time I have had a real look on a big screen. Well done to all the entries. Diverse and interesting.

I find Monica Leone's pots very interesting and can picture native group plantings a plenty! And I am hooked on Graham Cook's rocky creation!

For the tree in question - from me... it is a toss of the coin on Pat Kennedy 2986 and Marie Hewartson. If I was forced to get the splinter out of my butt and get off the fence it's Pat Kennedy - the direction of the glaze and colour seems to augment the Agonis; almost like the Agonis is rising from the depths of the pot.

Very cool.
Tending bonsai teaches me patience.

Congratulations Pat Kennedy, runner-up of the Bonsai Pot Acquisition Prize! The challenge of the competition was to create a pot was for an Australian native Agonis flexuosa bonsai.

Judges saw a wonderful use of colour and texture, unique in appearance and a pot that would complement the tree superbly. The earthy tones of this pot would create a subtle and complementary base for the tree. Expertly built with precise thickness and symmetry.

The pot will become part of the permanent collection at the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia. Pat takes home $600 thanks to the NBPCA Bonsai Trust Fund.
