Japanese Black Pine Propagation

Post by Homer911 »

Hey all,

I have had a search for JBP propagation methods on this forum and I can only find the method of seeds.

Do JBP's not propagate from cuttings? :reading: :lost:

Good searching Homer.
They are not easy from cuttings but if you can get some juvenile shoots strike rate will be far higher. Mature shoots with proper needles much more difficult so you may need to try a few times before getting some to strike.

I tried two cuttings last year in December from one of the JBP from this thread https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/forum/view ... 31#p268731. The shoots were removed from a whorl where I wanted to avoid thickening. I dipped in rooting gel (clonex red- hardwood), potted into coir/perlite and into a seed propagator to retain moisture. Happy to find one of the cuttings has rooted.
