Fig cuttings

Last April after having some inspiration from reading the how to develop dynamic figs quickly tutorial, I took some cutting home off a fig from where I was working at the time and thought I would give it a crack my self.

I never posted it up at the time because it was probably a little early in the year and didn't give them a chance of surviving. But never the less I still wanted to give it a try.

Out of the five cuttings I potted up 3 of them have survived.



After the growing season they haven't turned out as full as I would have liked them to be to try and develop good trees.

Maybe I need to read the post again and see where I went wrong.

Lets get this right you put these fat sicks down last April with no roots ..middle of autumn to late...well we are not going to get any roots then.

Winter definitely no action....spring they are waking up maybe some root action mid to late and summer some good root action looking at the green on top.

What were you hoping for really...you need to relax my friend you have done exceptionally well getting them that advanced... 3 and bit mths come on

I agree. This is good growth. Now that they have established roots they will grow even better next season. The key I think is feed lots. More space will also help so next spring I'd pot them into pots twice that size and feed heavily. I don't think you can give figs too much feed. One of our members pours 3cm of dynamic lifter pellets over the surface of the mix every 4 weeks in summer and gets good growth. Weekly feed of liquid fert should do similar.

Don't really know, guess I was expecting lost of little shots like in the tutorial.
But when you guys put it that way I'm lucky these little fellas survived.
They defiantly are growing good roots, one of my dogs knock one over last month so had to repot. While I was I untangled and spread them out, it looked very healthy under the soil.
Thanks for your advice guys, next this spring will big pot them and heavy feed and see how they go, and will update again next year.

Coming along really well with this year's wet summer if you fert well they will go crazy
