Repoting Japanese black pines

Repotted this larger jbp today. Removed about 180mm off roots from the bottom of the bag and exposed some surface roots. There was occasion white root tips. It has started to push buds out in last 2 weeks, so hopefully the timing is right. I have seen a few others have started repotting pines.
It has been a bit on the waterlogged side, so hopefully it will be more healthy after the repot.

Planning to let it grow for a few years before putting it into a ceramic pot.

Does anyone have any styling tips?

This is my seedlings , the I started last year. I had planned to repot earlier, but I ended up waiting nearly a whole year before removing from the seed tray. One got some wire, the others I am going to try and get movement through the branching

Your larger JBP has two branches low down that appear to be at the same level and appear as a "bar branch" from some angles. I would remove one of these asap as it looks like a strong candidate for reverse taper there as well. Apart from that it's difficult to see what's going on as the thick clusters of needles are obscuring the branching.

Oops, sorry I missed looking at a couple of the lower pics, which showed a more cleaned up tree. I would also reduce the long, strong lower branch if you want to keep that, to induce it to ramify.
