Shohin Demo
Hi,
I did a demonstration on Shohin Bonsai today for the Canberra Bonsai Society. Here is a pic of a tiny European Olive that I styled as part of the demo. It still has a bit of refinement to go, but not a bad start. The tree is around 20cm tall.
Cheers,
Leigh.

Re: Shohin Demo
Thanks guys.
Going for a full canopy of pads here!!
Just need time to get the foliage size down to tiny! I will be creating a canopy similar to the shohin pines from Japan - with distinct branch pads but very close together.
Cheers,
Leigh.

Re: Shohin Demo
That pot is a great combo!
I have a olive here from Don recently with similar shape but bigger. I have been scratching my head trying to think how to use the great flared base? Haven't thought about Olives much as far as styling might have to google some images

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

take a look at this puppy for an olive, it looks like its planted on rock, but the whole thing is stump and they have used suckers to create the trees. massive stump. over 2 foot across

wonder how many people this thing would take to lift...

Re: Shohin Demo
Hi Jamie - that is one massive trunk on that thing! Wow!
Thanks Antonio - this one isn't Tong Rae - it is a Japanese Pot - unsure which kiln. It was brought in by Megumi Bennet years ago.
Cheers,
Leigh.

Re: Shohin Demo
Leigh's demo was excellent, having pre-wired the trees made a heap of difference!
A very relaxed presentation made people feel invited to ask questions and Leigh kept everyone entertained with various jokes.
An excellent 'progression' from stump to first styling to a few years in and then some potted up shohin.
BTW Leigh that mugo pine is awesome!
