Turn Tables
Can anyone recommend a good quality turntable? I find the plastic ones don't turn very well with smaller bonsai.

Turn Tables
Hey One Bonsai … I recommend building your own at the size you want …. Check out these Lazy Susan bearings and there’s a video to help too.

Also note that the load capacity is huge - so can take heavy Bonsai, if needed. Note the video uses Triable tops and bases - I simply got Bunnings to cut me a wooden circle and screwed bearing to that .. - I can send a picture later in the week when I get a chance m.

Re: Turn Tables
I used something similar from Amazon. Probably cost $12.
I screwed it on to some other plywood and then screwed some nicer timber into that (planks all cut to ~the same length).
ie $12 plus cost of the screws. I keep it outside. Undercover but in the the elements. No major issues so far.

Re: Turn Tables
This is the one I bought
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B07RN ... asin_title
Definitely didn’t pay that much.
Had a look on Amazon. Plenty of others for around $10 to $15.

Re: Turn Tables
Spinning tree turn tables make some good ones. Youtuber Aussie bonsai bloke uses them so they must be good quality
Plus they are Australian made too.

Re: Turn Tables
Not exactly quality but I made my own turn table-table from an old office chair and an old wooden table top. It's sturdy, I can adjust the height to some extent and sometimes the wheels come in handy

Re: Turn Tables
I have Japanese turntables for sale
Sizes are 30cm round at $60
30cm x 40cm rectangular $90
And large 40cm x 60cm. $140
They are all heavy duty plastic and can stay outside forever.
It has glass ball bearings and is smooth to turn. Never oil or grease them as that attracts gunk, Just spray occasionally with WD40 or preferably Innox.
Plus postage to your address. Grant.

Re: Turn Tables
^^^ This.
I have been using this method for years.
Holds at least 120kg no problem, manoeuvrable because of the castor wheels, and free - just grab an old office chair from the council clean up, unscrew and discard the seat, then bolt a timber table to the stand.
Combined with a drummers stool to sit on and tend to your tree, it is unbeatable.

Re: Turn Tables
I bought a lazy susan as a turntable from Kmart a couple of years ago, its made from Acacia wood. Cant remember the exact price but it was definitely well under $20 and I liked the natural look.
Works for me.

Re: Turn Tables
Glad you posted this, I just couldn't remember the makers name of Sam's turntable. They do seem to stand up to some wear and tear.Keels wrote: ↑June 20th, 2022, 10:15 pm Spinning tree turn tables make some good ones. Youtuber Aussie bonsai bloke uses them so they must be good quality
