I bought this tree recently, it was neglected and in need of a prune and a repot, it does have its flaws but I'm happy to finally have something so substantial to develop, I will post pics after some work... I will need a special trolley for this one

Substantial is an understatement Eliast! What a brilliant tree to work with. I'd love to restyle iteliast wrote:I'm happy to finally have something so substantial to develop, I will post pics after some work... I will need a special trolley for this one
What are your plans for the future design?
Regards,
Steven
P.S. If you are looking for a new pot for it, you might like to consider a bath tub

Re: Neglected PJ Fig
Hi All,
Thanks for all the comments, I repotted this tree yesterday, the roots were quite healthy , I tried not too disturb them too much with the current cooler weather, but I did try to spread the aerial roots and replanted them a few extra centimeters away from the main trunk(I hope this will eventually aid in a wider root base). I will keep the tree in a well lit area away from the cold for now and then begin more major work upon warmer weather. I've been doing a lot of reading on figs, various books and on the net, I tried to find your book Jerry but have had no luck so far
I will keep an eye out for it, as it is highly recommended by many people
As far as design I have a few ideas, some might be a little too ambitious, these are my first attempt at doing a vert so be kind
If anyone has a more ideas or suggestions on design, I'd love to hear from ya
Elias

Re: Neglected PJ Fig
Hi All,
Today Jarrod and I spent a few hours restyling this tree, whilst there is still more tweaking do, so far I'm happy with the progress
At the next re pot we will change viewing angle as well as planting angle. Perhaps a slightly wider pot maybe oval, but also a little shallower I think...

Re: Neglected PJ Fig
first of elias.... NIIICCEEE!!!!!!!
and your virts are all good, it shows the direction you want to go. love the idea of banyan style but i think looking at the tree with partial defoliation i think with the two main trunks being so heavy and straight it is a bit ditracting, JMO if this were mine i would be looking at your virt that you made short
it gives me a good feel with the movement of the main trunks, and if you go that way you can always airlayer two more substantial trees
and that would also leave you open to the banyan style later down the track
like i said, just my opinion mate
jamie

This piece makes me think of twin towers, maybe more like two brothers, very interesting balancing act.
Thats a ripper of a tree, what you've done with it is awesome

Great work guys! I like the direction your heading in.
It seems to me that the leaders and some branches could be cut back a bit at the moment?

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.
