I have a little thryptomene saxicola that has been my enemy - every time I attempt to take a photo of it with the "proper" camera it comes out looking blurry, and I can get a much better photo of it using my phone camera. At one point I was convinced there was something wrong with my camera - but, obviously, it just turns out that I didn't know how to use the thing properly.
So - big moment for me - I have finally been able to take a photo of this plant that I think looks better than a quick phone snap. It involved a bit of stuffing around in Lightroom and with focus stacking (the only editing I did on the phone version is a quick crop) but it's progress!

Looks great.
FWIW I think the top photo is the better of the two.
The foliage come out beautifully.

Re: Trying to take better photos
Small update: I've bought myself a proper macro lens, and have become very distracted taking photos of tiny critters. My wife is a proper arachnophobe so unfortunately doesn't get to appreciate all of my lovely photos.

Where were you a year ago when I was completely clueless about it?
