Re: 3 Year Time Capsule Comp - Voting
I’ll let others ponder and perhaps we can come up with something else… but my thoughts were down a similar line to this proposal.TimS wrote: ↑January 31st, 2023, 8:07 pm People are incapable of reading basic instructions it seems. No idea whatsoever how you fix it, other than perhaps those who have entered and can vote in it PM you their selections?
From that you correlate that the people PM'ing you actually entered, and from that derive the winner(s)?
easy for us; whom we selected in the vote are in bold so there's no head scratching for us, and for you you have more work but you can be sure who has voted?
About the only way i can think of to actually keep it as intended; participant only voting
I’ll make it even easier/less contentious by excluding my entry from the voting. I had no intention of taking the prize in my own competition at any rate, that’s pretty weird… so if I exclude my tree I essentially have no stake in deciding the winner so eligible people can send their vote with a clear conscience!
It’s amazing how simple stuff turns … well… not simple, but that’s life I guess!
This solution is just an idea, happy to hear other ones too. I’ll decide tomorrow though, because I need this thing done!

Re: 3 Year Time Capsule Comp - Voting
If you go with the PM option put another time limit on; ie votes must be sent to you via PM within 7 days, otherwise you’ll be waiting for a month for everyone to log in again

Re: 3 Year Time Capsule Comp - Voting
It's pretty disappointing that people don't bother to read before they click on stuff, but it's the internet, it's going to happen.
It's been a while since I admined on a forum, but is there not a way that an admin can see who has voted for each of the options? If you can then you could just remove the votes that don't belong and get your totals that way.
On a side note, I too would be interested in a comp like this if anybody out there is thinking of starting another
Cheers,
Dave.

Re: 3 Year Time Capsule Comp - Voting
OK ... I have decided on the way to get this thing over the line.
There will be a re-vote for all those eligible
This is going to be the best way I think.
As per the concept from TimS, send me a PM with your votes (up to 3, but can be less) in a format like below :
Vote 1 : Owner of the tree (example: Ryceman3)
Vote 2 : as above (obviously different name though, only one vote per tree per voter)
Vote 3 : as above (obviously different name though, only one vote per tree per voter)
I am withdrawing my tree so discount that from the list, all others remain in the competition. It is a bit awkward to send votes to a person who is in the ballot, and I had no intention of keeping the prize at any rate so that means you can vote with no weirdness!
Rest assured, I will NOT make public the individual votes of anyone who submits.
Voting cut off is midday (12pm) Wednesday February 8th ...
pretty much 1 week from now... I'm already counting down!!
Any vote submitted by somebody not eligible (i.e: a person who did not initially enter the contest) will be invalid and not counted.
Any questions/comments feel free to let me know.
Once again ... and let's hope for the last time ... good luck to those with final submissions!!

Re: 3 Year Time Capsule Comp - Voting
If you haven't gotten the votes from all the entries, maybe you can PM them. I must admit, I didn't scroll back to see that the conditions had changed, I just saw the bump, and figured you'd just left voting for longer.

Re: 3 Year Time Capsule Comp - Voting
Thanks Mel for the idea, I went ahead and PM'd all those that put in a final submission given they have the biggest stake in it. Some have already voted so I apologise for unduly harassing. The maximum people it appears you can PM with one message is 5, and I don't have the time to go through and send to all eligible voters, so will just leave it at that for now.melbrackstone wrote: ↑February 7th, 2023, 8:45 am If you haven't gotten the votes from all the entries, maybe you can PM them. One day to go though!

Re: 3 Year Time Capsule Comp - Voting
The votes have been tallied, and the winner is ...
John_M!!!
Congratulations John, great job sticking with it and getting a nice looking Crepe Myrtle for your effort ... along with the Matthew Allam (42Mice) pot that is heading your way.
It was a close run race, with a 3-way tie for second (and just one vote behind) between ...
regwac
Watto
Miikeboyle
Followed by Keels in 5th to round out the top 5.
Thanks again to each and every participant, and also to those who persisited with the janky voting debacle. Well done to all!!
John, if you would like to PM me with your postal details I'll get your pot all boxed and ready to go ASAP.
That's it from me and this competition ... over and out!
