Air Layering Pinus Radiata

Post by Webos »

Gday guys,
I've been looking at the branches on some giant old Pinus Radiata on a friends property. There are some amazing shapes in the branches and I'm considering sneaking an air layer on some of these branches.

Has anyone attempted air layering on old wood of this species? If so, how did you go? Is it worth my time and effort or would it be futile to even attempt it?

The older the tree and wood you are propagating the harder it is.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

definately worth a go; make the ring bark double the width of the branch and use a blow torch to dry the timber in between the cambiums. if you need a hand let me know. :D ;)

There are many ways to do things, but only one "best" way.

I've just air layered a young P. Radiata. successfully. As noted, the older the harder.
