Airlayer a Bent Radiata pine

any chance for an update

i wanted to place 3 or 4 airlayers on a radiata in my backyard all varying sizes 50, 60, and maybe 100mm if i can climb and find one

would now be an ok time to do some layers?

Hi Matty, Only just saw this while looking for an old thread.

Tree is going well and I do not think has masses of roots, but obvioulsey has some to support it. I will repot in Late winter and check then.

Re layering now, being in Sydney if you are quick and are lucky to have it strike quick you could get on now but more thn likely will then be early winter before you can take it off. If you have a warm sunny spot to overwinter it you might be OK.
May be better to wait till late winter to put them on.
If you have a larger tree you can try some now and then as well as later.

Me too but it i good we know they survive on minimal roots. Mine did the same with the same results and is also powering now.

Seems that they are thougher than we all thought!

How did this air layer turn out? I imagine this one would be looking pretty good by now if it survived.

Was going strong way back when but sadly did not survive a drought event years ago
I have another radiata on the go now but still small

That's unfortunate. I was looking at a witches broom the other day and thinking 'if only I could seperate some of that from the tree' but shortcuts be shortcuts I guess. Outside of that they'd lend themselves to some spectacular cascades.
