Progression thread : Baeckea imbricata 1

This was purchased quite a few years ago at Sutherland Shire council nursery for $4

These guys are quite hardy. They grow well in all types of medium, but they can sulk a bit in a heavy medium. I found a medium mix was better.
I have occasionally let them dry out too much, but they only suffered a little die-back as a result. (but it wasn't bone dry).
The flowers a beautiful, as they snugly fit inside the leaves.
A beautiful tree to grow. If you have them in full sun and a well draining mix, they grow fabulously.
Mine have sprouted shoots all along and down to the trunk as the tree grows, but I didn't have to do anything abnormal to encourage this. Perhaps its the humidity that helps.

In my opinion it is essential to clip-and-grow these, as it encourages wild gnarly growth. Otherwise it can have a tendency to grow long and sparse trying to reach up for sunlight.

Sorry, I should have focused on the trunk. It was repotted in September and is powering on. Beautiful trunks these guys.

I realize its not quite yet 01.01.2023, but its easier to post that its 2023, so looking back people can easily distinguish that its a year apart. Its only 1 day before the actual date.

This has been placed into a Bonsai Pot by Adam Luczak.
Very hardy species. Adam makes beautiful bonsai pots too. One of the best potters in the world.

I've let it go wild, then cut back hard and its since gone wild again. Another fantastic species for Bonsai. Very hardy!

I decided against having a larger Baeckea. I'd prefer to try and keep most of my trees on the smaller side as I get older.
This has been placed into a smaller but slightly deeper Pat Kennedy pot.

On this Baeckea it can be temperamental. I have lost branches before from cutting back well past any growth, and other times it has shot when I've done this. But if its super healthy, it usually doesn't have much trouble with back budding. I haven't tried it on much older wood though, so take that advice with a grain of salt.
