Melaleuca Ericifolia - 3yr Time Capsule Tree [Ryceman3]

Post by Ryceman3 »

I haven't updated this tree since the end of the 3 year time capsule competition, but I did some work on it today and so I thought I would start a thread to continue documenting its progression moving forward. Below is a link of how it got to where it got to in the 3 years of the competition (which finished in Jan 2023)

And after letting it grow on over winter and early spring I decided to bite the bullet and get started on the deadwood I had planned whilst I was getting the rest of it back under control after giving it a rest from work over the last 6+ months or so. I will continue to refine the jins and am a bit torn about jinning that whole left branch (which was the initial intent) or leaving a bit to grow ... as I have left it for now. I might see how the rest looks after it has settled in and then revisit.

Love the jins there. That deadwood really adds a lot to this design. :tu:

An update on this tree, just over a year on.
I have cut it back since then, but today I decided I was done with thickening the left branch for the remaining dead wood so got out the jin pliers and gave it a bit of attention.
I'm happy enough with how that is looking. I did leave a live fun and one little tuft of foliage on one of the jins just to see how that goes. I can jin it if it dies or doesn't work out - just an experiment.

nice one R3 - but I look forward to the day I see that left branch being completely stripped to white. ;)

It probably will be all white, just going to see how things go with the live VEIN (not sure about "fun" in my other post, auto correct or just incompetence!) ... my aim is to end up with something like this below, but if the live vein doesn't work out it will be deadwood.
I'll be good with either really!
