[SYANBS] R3 - Leptospermum continentale

Post by Ryceman3 »

I remembered I had collected these seeds in April 2023 when on a trip to Anglesea (Great Ocean Road way) from some trees beside the road ... there was an abundance of them, and since I have one going as a bonsai already that I quite like, I thought I might as well grab them. This comp seems like as good a reason as any to get them out of the envelope and into some propagation pots. I'll get on to it in the next couple of weeks.

C'mon Dave I'm not that bad! :o
If competition is a concern though, there are likely many others that warrant more attention.
I haven't even planted any seeds yet, I just have a couple of envelopes and good intentions! ;) :D

Potting up for these seeds today.
I used the bog method (as I have done and discussed previously in another thread ... https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/forum/view ... 64#p272164 ), the only adjustment being I used sifted fines from my usual bonsai mix combined with perlite (about 2:1) instead of the cactus mix, because I didn't have any.
Should hopefully see some action in a few weeks!

Update for these ...
Same story as my other Mel post. I got a decent number to germinate that all effectively were cremated when I left them unattended on a series of hot days this summer.
Two of the original batch remain, and given I had quite a bit of seed left I decided to sow a bit more a couple of weeks ago. They are sprouting, but you need to look close!
Hopefully they'll get up and racing before the winter kicks in, although my experience with these is they will continue to grow over the colder months regardless.
