With Callistemons you can grow them a metre long to thicken them, then cut hard - they usually shoot back very well. Maybe try a larger pot, if that's what you want to do.

They also put some cut paste on it for me. It seems that calistemons don't scar over very well ?
Went away on holiday and it survived the house-sitters.
Was a bit disapointed that it didn't flower again this year but no drama.
Planning a repot for this summer, maybe into something slightly smaller. It's been two years.

Re: Callistemon Viminalis "mini red" - red-brown markings spreading
I'm going to need some help here.
I'm getting these reddish spots on the leaves and it's starting to look unhealthy.
I've no idea what it is, but it's started to spread to one of my mels too.
Disease? Pest? Nutrient or watering problem?
You can see in first pic on the previous post that the leaves on some branches (the far right one for example), turned into a nice mature dark green once the branch had grown out more, whereas on other branches (in the middle), many leaves just stayed with the softer texture and light green colour. I've no idea if it's releated but I feel like those are more badly affected.
Any ideas what this is and what I should do?
Here's the mel thats started showing some of the same symptoms.
Cheers

Re: Callistemon Viminalis "mini red" nursery stock (bought mid 2021)
I have not seen it in person but the reddish markings look a lot like Myrtle rust which is a fungal disease.
Originally from South America and now here in Aus. Not sure what it is doing in France? Maybe another fungal rust?
If it is a fungal infection you will probably see fruiting bodies at some stage. Search Myrtle rust to see some pics of all stages.
Can be controlled with fungicides. A quick check says copper based spray works as well as some of the newer fungicides but not sure what you will be able to get in EU.
