Juniperis pyramidalis

Hey everyone,

Went crawling through the advanced nurseries on the weekend to find myself a couple of rippers!! The first was a juniper (pyramidalis) and the 2nd I think is a shimpaku but could be wrong. Got home and couldn't wait to style the juniper (p), though in hindsight I feel I could've done a better job, and have uploaded the shimpaku (?) to see if any of you have any ideas as to were I could go with it, I was thinking maybe a triple literati type vibe!

that's definitely a good start mate
I think you need to introduce a bit of movement into the trunk though.

i think it works with the straighter trunk, its looks like a nice forestry style tree

Cheers for the feedback guys, heres an update from the four sides. I think I'm going to go with the straight trunk, which could prove to be a challenge as the top of the tree has a considerable bend at the moment where the new leader is. Am really just pinching and letting the tree regain some strength for the moment!

brandon, i think you should move your right hand branches down a little more, the left hand side seems balanced, the right is a bit up, i would be pushing the right hand branchin g down a bit, on your preffered front shot to match the left hand side, the apex on the right hand side is quite empty aswell, maybe look into doing something about that and you should have a more balanced trees. your still doing well mate

Brandon the pyramidalis is one of the junipers, that even after three years with wire it will still go back to pointing up wards.

It is better suited to groups. Or a training for wire and styling. You will after about ten years get some where if you have not given up.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, there are much better junipers around than that one. I have even tried to get them to stay down by under cutting.

Against the advice of my betters (sorry Pup!), I have decided to persevere with this little tree, heres an update, front and back.
Wiring was removed from the tree and considerable scissor and pinch pruning was done to reduce the foliage pads considerably, they were massively overgrown. True to Pups word, the branches have started reaching skyward again, so the wires will go back on soon. Also considerable work still needs to be done to the top area.
