Advice needed for taking cuttings?

Post by heartofhush »

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can tell me how i make some cuttings or some new plants from a tree.
I have a cherry plum tree and i would love to be able to make a couple more.

Can someone tell me, when is the right time to take cuttings and how to do it please. Or can I layer a branch or something?

It is now December - Summer season

Thank you for any advice given
Lu

lu if you have a nice branch you can air layer, not sure of the timing for a cherry though whether or not summer is ok for it, as for cuttings, take a 10cm cutting dip it in rooting hormone, the powder you will need to wet the end first, gel is good as you dont need to worry bout that just dip and plant, you might have better luck with semi hard to hard wood cuttings, i dont know how soft growth cuttings will work for a cherry?

cheers :D
