Swampy idea's
Hey fellow bonsai folk,
Need a bit of help with a problem swampy.
Should I : (a) Grow the top into a more natural swampy style with the branching starting only around the top third of the tree and lots of hollow carving on the right side and down to the base.
(b) Cut it back into a straight tree with more formal style and the finished tree would be a lot smaller.
(c) Leave it, pray for more shoots and style it into a standard informal upright.
(d) Something totally different.
What do you think??

Re: Swampy idea's
hey pal
nice material. if it were mine i would be thinking of maybe carving the entire top section turning it into larger sort of jin, and the creating the tree from where it kicks as the apex of the tree. did that make sense

Shannon,
I vote for option A. A clasical style for the tree as one might see it in nature.

Re: Swampy idea's
yeah i agree mate! have you considered changing thre potting angle to the right so the apex is in a more upright position? i think it will help take that lean out of the top of the tree ant help create a more desirable movement in the trunkline..Watto wrote:Shannon,

Re: Swampy idea's
Cheers guys! Jamie this is a good option but i already have another swampy with similar styling to your answer.
Jay I agree it could be moved around to the right a bit
Here's an old pic of the other swampy i have and a Virtual of what it might look in the future.
(my good mate Rod did the "V" he has got talent and tree's to match
)
Is this similar to what you thought Jamie??

Re: Swampy idea's
heres a davidn olive that was workshopped at robert stevens. im hoping he will chime in and post us a photo of the end result the chalk line shows where the dead wood is to be done. the tree built on the opposite side. i will never do it justice with a virt. your trunk is a tad straighter i was hoping to find a line that moves, which appears to be on the right hand side. imo those roots need to be layered and buried as well.

Re: Swampy idea's
The olive has got a similar truck line as the top of the swampy ,would love to see what Robert.S. would do!!!
And i have thought a bit about the roots I hoped with a little detailed carving work (i.e fake scaring) they would look like the buttress like on the old swampies in the deeeeeeep south of America.
What do you think yes?? no??

Hi all
Antonio mentioned my olive that was carved with Robert Steven and I thought I would put up a couple of photos to help explain his points.
