Re: juniper squamata 1
now the repot, nothing has been pruned off the top. there was an abundance of roots all the way around. i cut back just enough to squeeze into the pot. it will be styled at a later date.

Re: juniper squamata 1
ken and ketutg thanks. yes semi cascade is it. eventually that bottom right branch will go and the rest of the right hand foliage will be minimal and close to the trunk.

Looks good Ant, it has put on some girth, for such a slow growing species! It must be on good pastures!
Well done.

Re: juniper squamata 1
thanks pete, beside the usual aggressive watering, fertilising and full sun. the constant energy balancing. thinning through that top and then in turn the left cascade and at last let the right bottom sacrafice run, as march 2008. thats the deal.

Re: juniper squamata 1
Hi Antonio,
I think you have a green thumb with the confiers
I understand this species of juniper is very hardy, but
I am impressed with its vigour.
It roots from cuttings too Antonio... you stock pile your collections relatively in-expensive this way.
With semi-cascade, are you planning to grow it a bit taller? Might be by another top branch? I think
it would balance out the long cascade branch.
Please disregard the above remark you don't like it.
Cheers,
Viet.

Re: juniper squamata 1
why thankyou viet for the kind words. i have lots of cuttings growing and quite a few trees in the making. squamata works really well for me, i lovem
this one here wont get any taller. the cascade is only this long to keep it strong and give it room for styling. once that is done it will have more movement and compress to be shorter. when the right hand foliage is reduced the tree will also appear taller.

Re: juniper squamata 1
An impressive progression Antonio!
It would look very balanced as an informal upright, have you considered this?
If you are set on the semi cascade then you might like to jin the right hand side branch?
Thanks for sharing this beauty with us mate!

Re: juniper squamata 1
thanks for the reply steven. lets just call it an informal upright with a cascading branch. i will do jins later providing they flow with the movement. attempting to style that way now.

Re: juniper squamata 1
hi antonio
nice tree
the only thing i can say that i don't like is the straightness of that casading branch, this type of juniper bends really easily...
i would love to see the big movement that's in the trunk followed through with the next main feature of the tree
just a suggestion...
