Please identify these

(I tried to choose the right forum for this question. I hope I got it right.)

I picked these two plants up at Kmart for $5 each (thought the pots might worth this alone ) yesterday and am wondering if anyone can identify them please:



(See the little mushroom thingies in the front of the pot as well.)

They were labelled Bonsai but I guess they needs lots of work!

unkown one look like a buxus maybe,

number two is a picea i reckon, that or a cedar. definately that area anyways

#1 looks like a Box tree to me, Buxus, most likely English box. Can't help with #2, you need a conifer person for that, but it looks quite interesting!
As with most of these commercial trees, they could probably spend a while in a grow pot with Dynamic Lifter until they thicken up and develop a bit of the 'character of age', but they are pretty and healthy little trees and they will be good for you to learn on!

So I would: put them into a bigger pots, fertilize and encourage them to grow grow grow. And yes for $5 each you have some lovely pots to use for training or to display a more 'aged' plant.

I just looked at another post by Ron with pictures and get the same..... But when I go to his gallery I can see them there. No. 1 looks exactly like what was sold to me as a Japanese holly, but where I bought it I know they sometimes mislabel things. Managed to kill two of them.

The conifer is most likely Picea glauca "Albertiana Conica" (Dwarf alberta Spruce) and the other is most likely Ilex Crenata somethingorotherensis. I forget the cultivar.

I think common name was dwarf Chinese Holly, cutting grown and a slightly eccentric growth habit and as snappy as.. Just clip and grow or minor wiring.

First , Is a Illex Serrata.

I think that the second tree is Picea abies. They are often sold before Christmas as a 'Christmas tree bonsai' in retail shops at this time of the year.
