twin trunk juniper re-think

have had this juniper for a while now and have always(since the day i set eyes on it)thought it was such a great tree but the second trunk bothered me.

after a month of looking at it i have decided that it need to show the beatiful form in the left hand trunk, so i had a go at air layering the second trunk, as it in its own right will make a nice tree

i will deadwood the lower section of the second trunk

so hopefully this will result in two mature trees??

what do you guys think??

well done alex. as an instant bonsai and style you have made a great decision. this tree looks much better. personaly i woud have put it as it was in a larger growing box for a few years and fattened it up more then do what you have done. but aye theres always a next tree.

I think layering off that longer trunk was defiantely the best thing to do.
Then you cna plant them both in the ground/large grow boxes and fatten em up a bit!!

I have to ask What attracted you to this plant? It has very little form other than a ground cover.
Which is what the species is. The trunks take off in all directions with no harmony.
What you have planned is by far a better proposition. As you were advised, by Nathan I think a bit of growing on will not do any harm.
Or turn them into Shohin.

I have a similar decision to make with a Juniper conferta, Two quite fascinating branches from the base, but I can't see how they can work together. I am simply leaving it in a grow pot with the thought that by the time the trunk hits 1" diameter it will be ready to tell me which way to go. Never any harm in waiting, and in the meantime any outer branches which get too enthusiastic will be turned into cuttings for the next few tries

due to me being impatient the air layer didn't take,but the resulting tree , which was the main focus, turned out well and has been going strong(minus the removal of the upper branch) still needs a little work on the lower dead wood, possible shortened a little to clear the lower right branch.

great vision! that is where this tree needs to go i think, i spent last night going back to this post repeatedly looking at the tree and i think you have saved me from virting up

that and a slightly smaller pot will do wonders!

interesting, i think first up i need to simplify the foliage pads,there is a few to many areas of growth but with some simplification and shaping i think it could benifit
