new rock pot

hey people, just thought i would share this pot i have just got. it has a drip tray aswell which i think i might be making into a pot aswell by adding holes to it!
i have the tree for it but i have to wait for the clerodendron i have to cling to the rock which has only just been done about three weeks ago so a while to go yet, unfortunatley i dont have a pic of the tree or the rock it has gone on, but it will match up very well i think.

measurments are 25cm long x 15 cm wide x 5cm deep

just thought i would share with you as i think it is a different sort of pot not seen much, it is made free hand and is australian aswell. i am wondering if there is anyway to change to colour of the glaze though? instead of the white i would like it to be darker? as to match the tree and rock the tree is going on, the tree being a clero has the lightish brown bark with dark patches, the rock is a charcoal colour but the pot is white, i am thinking it might need to be darker, i am hoping the potters on the site might be able to help me in this situation? or give me some ideas any way

Hi Jamie.
You could buy a textured, coloured glaze from a hobby ceramics shop (they should have samples) and paint it on the pot and re-fire to a bisque. Some hobby ceramics shops have kiln space for hire.
Failing that - paint it.

i was thinking about painting it but wasnt sure if it would stick?

excuse my blankness with the glazes and that i dont really have any idea about pottery i think what you do is absolutly amazing to say the least, when you say a bisque fire, how high a temp would that be? if i could get it done properly i would prefer that but if not the paint might have to be the way to go?

Stoneware bisque is 1,000 deg centigrade. Hobby ceramics bisque to 1,100 deg and then gloss fire to 1,000 deg. The glaze has a painting medium which makes it stick to the pot because it's not porous.
Stoneware pottery is bisqued to 1,000deg which is still porous and will accept glazes. We then fire to at least 1280deg.
If you decide to use a hobby ceramic glaze, you ask to have it fired to 1,000deg (stoneware bisque). Also keep in mind that the finished glaze will be a different colour because of the glaze already on the pot. You might like to try it with the drip tray first.

you cant keep a secret can ya BB i have been in contact with the bloke who has made it and he is making more and will be sending me pics, i said i might be able to get a bulk order for him to but i found out he is 72 and is doing it as a past time more than anything.

Hmmmm... think again. Clerendendron has a heavily fissured trunk and fussy leaves. I recommend a very plain, quiet pot so there is no conflict of interest between the pot and tree. I agree that this rock pot is really nice but I think you will get the two together and find they fight each other for top billing instead of working together as a team. A smooth trunked tree with quiet foliage would be the best option for a fancy pot such as this.

i was actually thinking of using this pot for the clero that is going on the rock that you have posted in aswell, that is why i was thinking bout changing the glaze to a darker colour? i though it would look quite good with the clero on a rock in a rock pot, it would be like it was growing on cliff.. well that was the thought anyways, i might have to try a virt and see how it goes, otherwise it might be seeing a elm or ficus put in it
