My Big Privet for Rod

This big tree was collected at Mt Mee outside of Brisbane back in the 80's I think. At the time of the photo it was 1.6m wide and I think about 90cm high. It took 5 of us to repot it. Years down the track it got phytophthera (hope I got that right) and karked it.

It was a great tree mate .....such a pity we couldn't save the privets we had we all lost quiet a few .

Do you remember this one of mine Brian and Rod?
It died in 94' I think.

Thanks for that mate , it definitely had that great natural tree look I love. That was tragic we had that go through our privet - put me off them forever . All is good today mate

When i first started bonsai and started checking out the net for info i found brians bonsai in australia, your site was a great inspiration for me espicially this privet and your boug smarty pants, also your root over rock juniper which i saw restyled and posted on bonsai south forums recently however only a shadow of its former glory but at least on its way back.

soon after finding your site i started finding privets in nearby cow padocs. and my passion for bonsai and yamadori were set in full motion. since then i have found some killer privets but more recently natives with amazing deadwood etc but i dont think i would ever be able to get permission to collect, perhaps i could stealth it haha

anyways mate great to see you posting these trees as i havent seen these pics for a few years.

They where great looking Privets. It sounds like you lost a few at one stage. Can you tell me anything about how you think they got root rot and anything that was learnt to cure or prevent it in the future,

The bad thing about it it that it can be spread from an infected tree to another just from splashes when watering

You make me nervous about my privet stump I collected

I have been told not to get too serious with it ,as it will one day die .Any info about this disease would be helpful .The stump is away from everything else as I have been told how it spreads.By the way great trees
