clerdendum inerme- native or not?

there has been some speculation lately about clerodendrum inerme whether or not is a native of Australia? i have done a little research and the sites i have found state that it is, but i just wanted to make sure what other people think as i am thinking about entering one in the native competition if it is?

I don't know but they grow in a lot of areas as do privet. They are also found in South America

i also found that info, they are also found in hawaii aswell, so i will still have to researvh it, im not even sure if the clero i have are "inerme"

The ones I grew in Darwin came from a stock plant that originated in SE Asia.

thanks graeme, i also found that info aswell, it seems that clero are native to a lot of places, i'm starting to think mine isnt even inerme as all the pics i have seen of them and sketches they all have a darker, wider leaf than the ones i have, the ones i have have a fairly narrow leaf similar shape to ficus nerifolia but a bit more delicate, ii am starting to beleive it is a different cultivar but cant find any reference to it with the same leaves?

Squash a leaf and smell it - should have a very pungent odour

Clerodendrum inerme is a native species of Austalia. It occurs along the coast and on inshore islands, sometimes amongst mangroves or on the edges of rainforest; from NE NSW and SE Qld around to the NT and WA, on Christmas Island and into Papua New Guinea. It is apparently sometimes called the scrambling clerodendrum.

The species is still considered native even if it does grow naturally somewhere else too. It just means its not endemic to australia.

brian, i chrushed a leaf and i couldnt smell anything really? might get my wife to try tomorrow and see if she can smell anything.

is it really that bad a smell? i did have my nose broken a few times so i cant smell to well anyways, but are you trying to make me spew brian
