Oriental wasn't open when I went there yesterday, so I missed out on that one
Went to Bonsai Experience and Ray nesci's both a really good nurseries
Then I made my way down to Bonsai South and was blown away, Leong has got some exceptional trees, glad I made the effort to go there.
Picked up a copy of his book, he showed me his new book that should be out in the next couple of months and had a bit of a chat.
Would've been good if we where out on the same day Ron maybe next time
Didn't get to buy anything except for the book but did see a lot of stock that i would've liked to buy. Good prices down there too, so next time I think I might have to stock up

Not open on a Sunday? Strange way to do business. I was planning on going down there tomorrow, now I'm not sure I want to waste the petrol until I know his opening hours.
After this, the next trip will be to Bonsai South.
leongs book is pretty handy regan, i am glad i bought it too, his new book, did it look interesting? was it based on ficus again or more of a generalised species.
you will find leongs book great for ficus.

I just found this thread on Oriental Nursery and perhaps the opening time (Saturdays only) also applies now at Dural. There is a phone number in the thread and perhaps they still own the Rydalmere property too.
When they were in Rydalmere the only open day was Saturday tho you could call for an appointment... but as a poster said... there's no phone number. And yet they have a lot of bonsai to flog. Bad as the one on Annangrove Road who prices practically nothing and changes prices to suit his conception of the buyer and is not open on Sundays. You can't be religious is you are a retail nursery. That's my thought at any rate.
MelaQin, what is the name of the one on Annagrove rd?? I'm not from Sydney. I have been to most of them but not this one. Do you know the address by any chance & is it worth the visit??
How dare these people not blow their whole Sunday waiting around on the off chance you may visit ... the inconsiderate bastards!, probably spent the whole day with their families instead just to inconvenience you.
His new book is on pines, similiar layout to his ficus book

nah mate, never been to leongs, and his new book wont be much good to me either, i dont have pines and they just cark it here where i am so i doubt i will be getting any unless i move south, i do love them though, just dont want to put it through a slow death

That's a bit rough. It's a nursery business with a sign out the front advertising it as such. Nurseries are open on weekends because that's when they do the most business. And for most people, it's a long drive to get to it so of course they're frustrated to find it closed.
Ron, being a fulltime mum with a small nursery, and not fully set up yet, I only have a few open days a year, the rest of the time my plant sales are wholesale, or at markets, again if and where and when I choose, or by appointment. No way would I try to be open much in midsummer anyway, my herbs would mostly be offseason and noone would be daft enough to come out on tiny country dirt roads in catastrophic fire danger (They dont think much of it when its freezing in winter, either, and the road washing out)
Ive busted my gut working the times others choose to earn a bit more to pay more tax. Literally, my gut was eaten out by ulcers, so no more of that rubbish ever again. I wont make a fortune, but that doesnt concern me, having been so close to death, the most important thing now is to enjoy whatever time I have, and make it last a bit longer! So if you want plants on a Sunday, ring first, otherwise I might just be down the beach teaching my own special sandcastles to my little ones.
Mel, not all of us are in the situation where we can devote 24/7 to the ratrace, if you only want businesses which have the staff and resources to open long hours everyday, stick to B###ings and don't bother with the little guys.
If you are not killing plants, then you are not extending yourself as a gardener..

if i ever get the chance to go down i would definately been going, i have tried to get some through leong over the internet but he wasnt really interested in the idea, so thats fine.
i would be cautious with pines in the QLD climate, i know they can look great but in our climate everything is changed, i know a couple of people have pines but they just dont seem to like our summers where the humidity is high, i had a small one that lasted about 2 years, i think the problem was it didnt get any time to rest and the tree became exhausted and died.
