I've been worried about that aswell but I hope it keeps the foliage where it is if it lives. If it does sucker from the base hen I'll rub off the buds to encourage it to put it's strength in it's existing foliage. Well it's only been about 24 hours since I collected it and it's looking fine, not that that means anything at this early stage, but Ive got my fingers crossed myself that it survives. It's in full shade and being kept moist.

just looking at the virt again and man, i must of been tired last night, its ok i guess, gives you a picture of my thoughts, close anyway, im thinking that bottom left branch looks dicky, it would probably look better to carve out the bulbous look and hope to get a bud up higher from where the main trunk comes out from, and then have the pad cover a bit of the dead wood.

I can see what you where trying to show well enough in your virt. It shows good branch structure of how I could shape it's structure but I would probably make it more canopy like and and rounded and just by a litle bit join the mother and daughter tree in the canopy. Hope anyone undrstands what I'm trying to explain, don't have Photoshop so the virts arnt coming from me, just in my head for now :D
thanks

Thanks rod that looks awsome :D , great virt. I have considered using the one main trunk and now you've given me a great insight to what it would look like if I did only use that one.

An update on the trees health after 2 days after collection, and it's looking a bit sad at the moment the leaves are a bit dry, so I'm hoping it's just having a bad time after collecting and the loss of it's roots. I got told hat when privite loose a lot of roots they freak out and drop there leaves while ther still green and then spring back a few weeks later , so I hope it's the case for this one. I'm soaking it in a tub of a mixture of seasol and nitrosol plant food to help it out.

An update on the tree and it's survived after it's brutel root chop at collection  which is great cuz I was a bit worried about it. Most of it's leaves dropped off but it's throwing out a few buds here and there on the little twigs and branches :D now I just gotta let it grow for a little while then I can start styling it :D

its been over a year since this tree was collected and it has started to progress a bit now. over the year it has been grown and chopped a few times to build up ramification of branches.at the end of summer it was re-potted into a temporary pot, it will not be the final pot im just using it to create a good root ball. a few weeks ago it was trimmed and given its first styling. all the branches were wired out and i was defoliated to be able to wire it easier and see he structure better.

it is now just budding out again and should be in full leaf again in about a week.

Well her she is 26 months after collection date.
265.JPG
the tree was restyled and dead wood worked in March and angle changed as it was too 'flat' looking, it now has a lot more depth. today it was re potted into a very nice Pat Kennedy pot ( thanks Pat :tu: ) and into a mix of 2 part diatomite and 1 of zeolite.

looks great hugh, privet are great trees for bonsai!

i really like the styling of this one, the pot is great to.

next pot maybe something slightly smaller as the pot competes for attention at the moment.

keep up the great work, can't wait to see how much this guy matures in another few years :tu:

thanks bougy glad you like it

thanks jarad, i agree they are very good trees for bonsai and readily available too. the pot was a bit of a guess to match but im pretty happy with how it turned out looking with it, if i come across a better one ill be sure to snatch it up! i chose this one because it has an off greeny colour that matches the colour of the bark quite well. the photo though dosnt show it off too well because of the glare coming off the pot.
