My great find today

Post by Ron »

I can't believe my luck: I think I'm meant to be a Bonsai person.

I took my teenage daughter out for a driving lesson this arvo and we were going down a gravel road and I noticed some plastic garden pots dumped in the bush - I'm always on the lookout for of them. Turned out there were only 4 or 5 but also got some of that Nylex plastic fencing which I was going to buy this week for a Jasmine plant I got. Also got some milk-type plastic crates and to top it off three old Bonsai pots. There was a really nice rectangular one there but it was broken in half. Needless to say while all this was going on, teenage daughter is highly embarrassed about dad rooting around in a pile of rubbish.

Anyway, I put all the stuff in the car (which my wife had only vacuumed an hour before - she ain't going to like the dirt everywhere now if she sees it before I get a chance to clean up) and thought I would have one more look (actually it was the 3rd or 4th time I went back). And I'm so glad I went back because I found a heavy stainless steel pot turntable (it's still got the dirt on it - couldn't wait to wash it before taking the pics):

446 Got some white Wisteria that I can't wait to get into that big pot.

I'm literally over the moon as I was planning to buy one soon but wasn't happy about the prices being asked for the plastic ones ($30 to $70 - the same $30 ones cost just $13 including postage to buy online from the UK!). All this one needs is some new rubber stuck on the top and it's a goer. I would hate to think how much this would cost retail if you didn't have the wherewithal to make one like it.

Thanks for the offer, but I've gone a *tad* overboard with tree purchases in the last month. I think I could open a small nursery. After moving 30 plants from small plastic pots to larger ones today, I'm now getting an idea of how much work I've in store come Spring and all months before and after it.

Cheers, Ron.

PS I'm just not game enough to ask what you've got.
