Are you sure this is chinese elm, both the leaves and bark look very different from what I have

It mean this little Serissa is soon going to take over most of the Chinese Elms for size.!!! Something you would not expect

Hi Antony, I disagree, I don't think it's a nice trunk line at all but it sounds like you're seeing something that I don't. But, to answer your question, when the trunk gets to be about twice that thickness, believe it or not I am going to create an air layer where you see the first trunk turn starting from the bottom of the tree. I will then cut the trunk at that point and use the bottom section for an informal upright by forming a new leader. Also bear in mind the tree has good nebari but the photo showed this buried in soil so there is in fact considerable more height for this piece (At least another inch). See photo below. As for the top of the tree that's left over, well I haven't yet decided. If you have any better ideas, I'm all ears mate.!! :D :D
