Luke it would be far far easier if you and some others would post your photo's according to Ausbonsai format. Then it wouldn't be such a chore to look and give advice. Sorry mate it needed to be said. :D

hey mate :D

its a fig, easy to keep alive, water and food they love it, only thing to watch is dont let it get to cold.

what i would be doing is putting it in a bigger pot/grow box and feeding the hell out of it, get a bit of graft tape and wrap it around those arial roots so they are in contact with the trunk, they wont take long to fuse and will give the trunk some interest, let it grow, and grow and grow.

then once it has thickened nicely and put on some size, i would chop the top of at a branch to be a new leader and rebuild it. you will have a nice tree in a couple of seasons if it is all done well and looked after :D

get leongs book on ficus as well, it is a ficus lovers goldmine!

jamie :D

Can you point me in the direction for the guidelines on that please? Don't want to be doing the wrong thing.

Thanks, Ron.

Just use the uplod pictures format that is avaibla when posting.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

>>hey Ant :) im not sure how to properly resize my pics yet if thats what your talking about?... im oldschool and lame! i still use paint! even tho i have cs3...

>>hey jamie :D yes its a fig. and because im in the SE-Q humidity, (same as you..) i have higher than normal expectations for this tree!
plan A is.... repot into a smaller unglazed pot.... then keep all that in a bucket of perlite to get more from the (grafting tape) straped areial roots!
plan b is... leave it just as it is for another grow season.
plan c is.... put into a grow box !!!!!
plan d is.... plant in ground, in appropriate position!!!

i love my beer but im so glad i got this tree!

dont go into a smaller pot, you want to build this tree, not slow it down. you need to get it growing strongly and then chop back hard to get it to bud back to get some branch choice. so grow box or ground. and feed like crazy.

I am with Jamie, loose the bonsai pot, it is an anchor around the trees neck.

Cheers
