Re: Bonsai Nurseries - Queensland
Hey Jamie
The Oxley nursery is better than the website, He sells a lot of stuff at normal garden centres and I think the website is aimed at that market.
His whole backyard has been turned into a nursery, not a huge range of stock trees but there is some nice stuff there.
You should probably ring him to make sure he will be open if you want to go on Tuesday as he does go out to service the garden centres, He is there all day Wednesday though.
You better take some cash with you if your heading out to Australian Bonsai Grower (no eftpos), he has a massive range of stock out there, from $9 dollar saplings up to some pretty big stuff. He has a lot of decent sized tigerbark figs for about $350 that you'll probably enjoy.
Let me know what time you'll ne where and I'll try to meet up with you and say G'day.

Hey Jamie
PM sent
When I was at bonsai grower last he had, Sargent, Chinese and Squamata juniper I don't know my junipers well enough yet to know which one has what sort of adult and juvinille foliage. The only juniper I have is Squamata and Procumbens.
Is shimpaku a type of Chinese juniper or something else?
I know all about limits, I've been cut off.

shimpaku is the japanese term for juniper. it is a tree the japanese would collect in the mountains and they are only certain types of shimpaku to selected areas, thats why you get the itiogawa shimpaku and the likes. Is shimpaku a type of Chinese juniper or something else?
it is a juniper though- juniperus x media "shimpaku"
very similar to sargeants.

Re: Bonsai Nurseries - Queensland
well... to my biggest dissapointment today... i went to bonsai northside, a long drive to say the least... pulled into the driveway and what did i see! a closed gate. not happy!!! after seeing there sign they have changed there closed days from monday and wednesday to tuesday and wednesday, without putting anything up on there site or anything, so i was not impressed.
so i headed to bonsai place in nerangba, after another 20 km and getting my hopes up, only to be shot down again not open. mate i was not a happy boy at all.
i gave up after that and have decided i wont be going to either of them again. i was going to head out to australian bonsai grower which i was wanting to get to but by the time i got back in the car at nerangba there was no way i was going to make it.
so all in all about 3 hours wasted

Re: Bonsai Nurseries - Queensland
im staying at forest glen for the night as i have medical testing tomorrow, not sure how long that is gonna take, but i dropped the wife and little one off at the cabin so they didnt have to be in the car any more (little one was getting cranky, as they do, i couldnt put her through any more) and i drove straight from the cabin out there as it was starting to get late. so yea wasnt happy.
if i get time tomorrow i will check out the one in oxley, premier street, its only twenty minutes from where i am getting tests done and it seems to be the only place within reasonable distance that is open.
i honestly dont get why northside changed there close days without even putting a notice up on their site. last time i was there they gave me a little note saying they will be closed monday and wednesdays, and then i get there today and it had been changed. ahwell, they have lost some good business for now as far as i am concerned. maybe when i get over the fact this happened i will go back one day.
i get the feeling i will be in brisbane a fair bit in the next coming months with my back. i have a gut feeling its gonna be a surgery job.

Hey Jamie
Did you end up having a look at the Oxley nursery?
I thought you were staying in Brissie, didn't realize you had to drive all the way from Forest Glen and back, bit of a dissapointment to find them closed.
Hope you get some good results from your tests, fingers crossed for ya.
Cheers Regan

Re: Bonsai Nurseries - Queensland
thanks for the concern regan
as for the results, its actually come back with nothing more than i didnt already know, they havent been able to help me and i have to go back next week. my problem seems to be an issue that isnt fixable
to many details right now.
as for the oxley nursery i didnt even get a chance to go there, after getting out of the specialist reasonably earlier i found my wife in near tears as where we parked our car was going to be getting towed because the business owner was an... yea lets not start using words. anyways, get in the car, need a servo, set the gps to the nearest servo and sure enough the thing was screwing up for some reason, not happy bout that either. so we drove in circles around the city as the gps was taking us in them, we were on empty running on fumes, and my little 13 month old girl wasnt happy either screaming her lungs out, we finally stumbled across a servo and i couldnt put my wife, who was really stressed just as much as bub, and bub through any more of it so we come straight home, a drive that turned into 5 hours, bub did eventually calm down and have a good sleep that she needed.
but my time in brisbane wasnt the best to say the least and i am not looking forward to it again next week as i wont be putting my wife and bub through it again, so i will be doing the whole thing myself that will be hard.

Jamie
Mate it sounds like Murphy had his eye on you today. Glad you didn't get your car towed, it happened to me when I first moved down here, not fun.
Let me know when your coming down next week, you can stop at my place if you need a break I'm out near the airport only a couple of minutes off the gateway.
I'm not working at the moment so I'm home most times, starting a course next week.
Cheers Regan
