Ray Nesci Bonsai Nursery - Dural, NSW

Post by Russ »

I have posted this topic on Ray Nesci simply to give the nursery a plug. There isn't alot of info around about the business and i think due to little digital advertising (you will see what i mean when you visit the website) this place is a hidden gem. It is defiantly worth a trip no matter where you are from! You can get a good idea of the size by plugging the site into Google Earth.

I was out there today and the range and prices blew me away, along with the service and advice provided. A tick in every box, something that none of the other big bonsai nursery's around Sydney have managed to do. I was told that there were over 150 different species available in many different stages of life, the majority of which are born on site :D

Another point I should make is that the Nursery i am told is open 7 days.

http://www.raynescibonsai.com/ The website is about as bare as they come but the Nursery itself is completely the opposite!

In case you are wondering i am not affiliated at all with the nursery, you will feel exactly the same as me after you have made a visit. It blew me away!

Cheers
Russ

I totally agree Russ!

I used to go to different nurseries, which had good quality trees too, but roughly half as many. Their prices were usually 1.5 times the price or more. I saw a Ficus at Imperial Bonsai Nursery that had a pricing of $150 (one hundred and fifty) and a fig that looked identical to me, at Rays nursery for $25 (twenty five).

Besides the amazing amount of quality trees, and the fact they have trees at every level from seedling through to "finished" trees, it should be noted that they also have a pretty decent selection of pots! From Chinese to Korean to Japanese. From mica to clay...everything! They also have very attractive slabs.

They also have lots of attractive rocks and stones as well as driftwood. They have great books including the Naka books; "Bonsai Techniques" 1 and 2. They have back issues of bonsai magazines too. They sell zeolite at a great price, not that you can find competition....... They sell the same soil that they use themselves, and once you see Rays collection, you wont be disappointed!

Being young (just finished school) i have not a large amount to spend on my hobby. My collection is fairly large (150 or so) but none are finished. Access to Ray Nesci Bonsai Nursery allowed me to pick up semi-trained stock with large bulky trunks, and good nebari at fairly cheap prices. I have bought several trees that fit this description from Ray at between $40 and $65 (about my price limit).

Check it out! If you are currently buying stock from other places around Sydney, i feel sorry for you!

I've put many a dollar into Ray's pocket but it has always been money worthwhile. Both Ray and Clinton are terrific stylists and it is always worth a run up there to chat and do a foot patrol.
