hi i have three banksia in my yard i planted three years ago about 1" thick now their about 3" thick and im diging one out i have just cut it back hard and watered with seasol and auxinone should i dig around it then dig up in a month or any other ideas dont want to loose it its a ripper

If it was mine this is my cut and i would be trenching now and wiring new leader, lifting in spring to do extensive root work, negotiate the next planting angle and then back in the ground.

Hi dayne,
The foliage looks like integrifolia so it should move without any difficulty. You should put the spade around it to condense the root system. I don't know your weather patterns up there but dig it up when the night temps are quite high.

thanks guys the weather here is raining on and off and a bit mild we will have about another month of warm stuff befor it starts to cool down the problem is my place is on the market so may not get to wait till spring
the chop will be coming lower and will go in a grow pot for now its a couple of years off a bonsai pot but you never now things grow crazy up here might even hot house through winter if you guys think it will hel

well its out of the ground and in a pot its amazing no tap roots its flat bottomed with alot of roots around the outside its been cut back bit harder than id like but it was bigger under the ground and couldnt get in the pot easy
any ideas on after care they like it more moist im using seasol and auxinone

keep it moist and in part shade i would expect mate treat just like any other tree you would thats been dug, in shade untill it pushes strong growth
i just cut back my banksia today to its trunk line, now its a waiting game for it to back bud, i did severly take of a lot of the roots but needed to as the root system was a mess, if you got lots of feeders it should be sweet
keep us updated and take some pics for us!!

With those sort of temps you should be fine root system sounds good. Its single digit temps here today the time for potting natives has passed.
