Re: OMG!! who gave her a dremel....
sorry to tell you this paddles but the tree will probably die now. and even if it survives what you have done is to symetrical and is not aestheticly pleasing.
i can see what your trying to achieve but if you want to achieve spiraling sharis you need to do it in stages to allow the trees sap flow to aclimatise then extend it a small amount further otherwise it happens to fast and the tree cannot cope and redirect its sap flow in time

Re: OMG!! who gave her a dremel....
it was a plum, dug out of someones garden whilst I was doing some work. I'm not too concerned if it dies, was just playing with the dremel. (this tree was in the discard pile)
meanwhile......
oh, yes jamie I chopped the top off, the original tree was roughly 2ft, straight pole, no taper etc. it suffered badly from mites, and despite constant treatment, failed to do much.....

Re: OMG!! who gave her a dremel....
if it does live then it might start sucking up water and nutrients, and in theory it could end up twisting the absolute hell out of it in a few years time it might be twisted like a cork screw.
being a deciduous tree it might be ok.. but then again i wouldnt be counting my chickens.

Re: OMG!! who gave her a dremel....
can anyone else who feels obliged to tell me i've likely killed this tree, please refrain. I was just playing with the dremel, I obviously did not use a valuble tree (if you thought it was, well that is your problem not mine) I only posted it, for those with a sense of humor to have a laugh at. If you don't have a sense of humor, please refrain from comment.

Paddles - if I may ask, is that tree grown in a colander?
PS - I think its great - good practice and if it lives it will be a sensation.

Re: OMG!! who gave her a dremel....
i wasnt having a crack, i was actually saying if it lives it will look very contorted, like the yamadori shimpaku, i actually seen one today while scouting through and noticed that it had a corkscrew look when it began. so i wouldnt stress to much because if it can handle the carving and divert the sap flow i think it will work fine, and it can reshoot from any part of the live tissue as well. so thats another plus!

It sounds like you have lost your sense of humour so I guess that means you can't post here anymore eitherpaddles wrote:can anyone else who feels obliged to tell me i've likely killed this tree, please refrain.
