New fig stump

Post by Regan »

Hi

Here's a fig I got a few weeks ago, doesn't look like much in the box (and didn't in the pot it came in either) but it has a pretty good root base on it as shown by the red outline, which won't take long to become really good with some new root growth and some fusing. I think it is a Moreton Bay, or what i always thought was Moreton Bay Fig.
I will post some photos of the leaves soon for a better ID.

if that is how the trunk line goes regan it will make a sweet tree. i would chop back to one trunk and select a new leader to suit the taper.

nice find :D

That's my thoughts exactly Jamie, it's not quite as good as my diagram shows as it's got some ugly twisted roots but once it grows some more and they fuse in where I want them too it will be sweet.

I almost passed it up too as all you could see sticking out of the soil was 2 stalks, the roots had grown out the bottom of the pot and must have swelled up inside

glad I took it now though

interesting, was this at a nursery? i wonder why it is buried so deep?

i would use the trunk on the right personally and chop back like i said, it will love getting a chop back too you will get some sweet back budding.

Nab it was at my parents, mum must have put it in a pot and forgot about it, the roots were running down into the septic tank. I'll wait until I can lift it up before I decide where to chop.

Jamie all those roots were under the soil they loo like they started as aerials, mum mustve topped up the pot at some stage

I chopped all the junk of from underneath, should be growing a nice new root system down there, it will be raised up once that happens
